STEVE WADA

Steve Wada was born in California in 1917 and raised in Japan. He served in

the U.S. Army in World War II and studied art under the G.I. Bill at the Chicago

Art Institute, the Art Students League of New York, and Atelier Fernand Léger in

Paris. Following his studies, he worked simultaneously in several media

including drawing, painting, sumi-e, calligraphy, graphic art, and photography,

combining the traditions of Japanese and Western art in original ways. He had

one-person and group shows in each medium. (To support his family, he became

one of New York’s finest dental ceramists, whose creations graced many

celebrities’ smiles.)

Steve Wada was a member of the Art Students League of New York, Artists

Equity Association of New York, Sumi-E Society of America, and Japanese

Artists Association of New York, and an associate member of Allied Artists of

America and Audubon Artists Association. His works are in numerous private

collections.
